About Indie Roots DC

As citizens of Washington, DC, the Indie Roots co-founders all dig good indie music and all lack Congressional voting rights. The confluence of these interests has precipitated this non-profit company, dedicated to realizing DC voting rights in Congress. We feel that only national exposure stands between this issue and a proper resolution. Until the nation knows and cares, many senators and congressmen have no practical interest in the issue. Which is odd, since we've spent $500 billion to build democracy in Iraq.

Indie Roots incorporated to help solve this problem, an artifact of error left by the founding fathers. Our primary goal is to raise the profile of this issue to a level of national attention via coast-to-coast tour of DC musicians. This is a town-to-town stump for US democracy, with a soundtrack. Other goals include:

  • Motivating young people to engage in the democratic process

  • Mobilizing college-aged men and women to register to vote and get to the polls

  • Developing the connection between grassroots activism and independent music.
